Estonia Ship Registration
The Ship Register of Estonia has extensive records of marine vessels, fishing vessels, floating vessels and ships under construction except inland vessels. The register shows not only technical information, but also information about the ownership, ship mortgages, usufructs, prohibition notations and other significant legal restrictions on the vessel. All transaction with a registered vessel only has legal effect as it is registered formally in the Ship Register.
Harju County Court, Tartu County Court, and Pärnu County Court have the duties of managing the Ship Register, while Harju County Court is also responsible for the jurisdiction of Viru County Court. All of the registers are kept and administered electronically.
Citizens of EU Member States and legal persons whose registered seat and/or registered place of business is in an EU Member State are treated on equal footing with owners, co-owners or successors of seagoing vessels upon registering their vessels, subject to certain conditions. Either a residence or a permanent business establishment in Estonia and an appointment of a permanent representative in Estonia, who is directly responsible for meeting the technical, social and administrative requirements of seagoing vessels, is required.
